Coaching Staff

HEAD COACH – GLENN MERKOSKY

Coach Glenn Merkosky played 66 games in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils, Hartford Whalers and Detroit Red Wings.  Merkosky’s playing career spanned 10 seasons.  After retiring from playing Merkosky became head coach of the Ontario Hockey Leagues Sudbury Wolves (1992-96) and then coached the American Hockey Leagues Adirondack Red Wings from 1996-99.  From 1999 to 2019 he worked as a pro scout for the National Hockey Leagues Detroit Red Wings.  In 2022 Merkosky returned behind the bench of the Adirondack Junior Thunder and led the team to a 30-6-4-2 record while taking home coach of the year honors.

 

ASSISTANT COACH – JOE PATERSON

Coach Joe Paterson is played 291 games in the NHL for the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, and New York Rangers.  After retiring from playing Paterson served as the head coach of the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League as well as the Louisville Panthers and Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League.  From 2013 to 2015 Paterson served as a pro scout for the Los Angeles Kings.  Additional to his role of Junior Thunder Assistant Coach Paterson serves as professional hockey consultant to the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder.

 

ASSISTANT COACH – JOE DELAHOYD

Coach Joe Delahoyd played college hockey for Fairfield University in the ECAC.  Joe is currently employed as a Corporate Recruiter in addition to being and Assistant Coach with the Adirondack Junior Thunder.

OWNER – TADD SIPOWICZ

Tadd Sipowicz is the Chief Revenue Officer of the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder and has owned the Adirondack Junior Thunder since its inception in 2022.

BROADCASTER / DIGITAL MEDIA DIRECTOR – BRENNAN DOWD

Brennan Dowd is the Digital Media and Data Analysis Director for the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL.  Brennan has served as Broadcaster and Digital Media Director of the Adirondack Junior Thunder since 2022.

HEAD EQUIPMENT MANAGER – TYLER POTTER

Tyler Potter has served as an assistant equipment manager for The Adirondack Thunder and Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL.  After leaving Orlando Tyler served as an assistant equipment manager for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League.  This is Tyler’s first season as Head Equipment Manager of the Adirondack Junior Thunder.
